| Long waits at Republic Bank, Linden |
 |
|
 |
Dear Editor,
Going to do business at the Republic Bank, Linden branch would require a mountain of patience, except by chance you are lucky to be there on one of those odd days where it appears as if there is a virtual conspiracy on the part of customers to stay away.
Two or three hours sitting/standing before a transaction can be completed – if not more – is no exaggeration; this has become the norm, the standing order. Judging from what one sees regularly, this branch it appears, lacks the capacity to deal with its large clientele expeditiously. Many customers quietly endure this painful time-consuming wait in various ways, although they are annoyed and disgusted. The constant deep sighing and fidgeting, intermittent ‘suck teeth,’ grumbling and all forms of unpleasant facial expressions and exchange of emotions lay bare the stressful ordeal that is often encountered whenever some form of transaction must be done at this branch.
Upon entering and seeing a crowd, many would turn away, unless it’s a matter of urgency, leaving one with is no alternative than to resign oneself to a prolonged torturous wait.
Republic Bank is considered the main, and in the view of many, the lone bank in the Linden community. The New Building Society, which also serves the community though on a smaller scale, equally lacks the capacity to attend to large numbers of persons in a satisfactory timely manner. If when you get there ten persons are ahead of you, trust me, you are toasted; the hourglass could very well empty two, three times before you are attended to.
Whatever the reason for this tardiness, Republic Bank, Linden branch, must quickly move to rectify the situation when crowded. If one customer stands at the counter or sits in an office being attended to for over an hour or two, people will not applaud the system, neither will they feel any better because of smiles from the staff.
People are bitterly complaining, and though not from the mountain top, the officer in charge should not take things for granted.
Yours faithfully,
Frank Fyffe
Editor’s note
We are sending a copy of this letter to Republic Bank for any comment they might wish to make. |

I agree with Mr. Fyffe. To transact business at Republic Bank, u have to be really healthy to stand and wait so long.... it is really disgusting. This should be taken up by the Head Office in GT. |

I support the letter 100%, I think the need to do better, I think the staff needs training how to deal with customer and work alittle more faster. I always lern that where there is competition there is improvement, so if there is another bank maybe that will be the key. |

I beg to differ , my experience last April at the Citizen Bank in Georgetown was refreshing ,I gave customer service 10 stars . I spent about 19 minutes but was given the star treatment. Part time employees serves their purpose. This manager should consider this as an option. This bank needs to get it's act together . |

Because of long lines at the Mackenzie Branch, I went to the Georgetown Branch only to find the same problem.. I spent more than two and a half hours cursing the world. It is hell doing any banking business in Guyana. It seems as though all the banks have the same problem...long lines, not enough seats, close too early, not enough tellers/clerks, most clerks do not have knowledge of the banking proceedures, most need to be re-trained, personal documents are left lying around on desks, too many clerks have to handle the same transaction. It is a crazy cycle; especially for those who are visiting from overseas; because most clerks and supervisors are not familar with the process, it "appears" as though we wait forever to be served. Therefore, Guyana is in need of at least 2 other banks in Linden and at least another 6 banks in Georgetown. |

They need to take into consideration pregnant customers & senior citizens . It is awful to come out the hot sun and then to get on the long line. They are doing this to us, because there is no competition. I hope the manager have a heart and come up with a solution to this ongoing problem. |

What we need is competition and we will get better service. Lets all join collectively together and start writing ,telephoning, faxing, e-mailing our Member of Parliament. In the 70's, Linden had two banks ...The Barclays Bank and The Royal Bank of Canada. We have a growing population and a next bank will be of great service to this community. |
