Cheaters Response
I am also an American. My family home used to be located in South Jersey. We owned horses. One day while eating dinner my brother and I heard two of our mares fighting in the corral. We went out to the corral to stop the fight. We each took a lead rope from each of the mares. He tied his off to a snub post while I attempted to tie mine to a fence post. His mare kicked as I passed her. The kick sent me flying through the corral fence. I've never judged all mares based upon the actions of that one animal. In response to your question let me say this to you. I married a beautiful and loving Guyanese woman form Linden 25 years ago. I see her as talented, intelligent, quick witted and able to discern the difference between a sincere relationship and a pick up. You've done Guyanese women a great disservice by having written your closing comment. My response to you is "Guyanese women are no different than any other women in the world. I wounder how many American women have done the same thing to you. Get over it pal, life's too short.

THE EVIL THAT RULES US
August 1st marked an end to one form of enslavement of Africans. It took centuries before our ancestors became free from the evil workings of the minds of the group that enslaved them. We Africans in Guyana cannot afford to spend another two centuries fighting for what so many of our ancestors died. We must have freedom and equality NOW!!!

The contributions of Africans to the development of Guyana cannot be matched by any other group except the indigenous peoples. We built the infrastructure that allowed others to land here and grow. We carved out the towns and villages from virgin rain forest. To think that people who came after us and benefitted from our contributions would now become the clones of the slave masters, following them in attitudes and behaviors was something we never anticipated. But Burnham knew, and protected us from the scourge for many years. As each day go by and we witness the ever increasing atrocities being perpetrated by the little eichman rulers of Guyana we are learning how much we owe to our founder leader for engineering a 28 year respite from this evil

THE PPP INTRODUCED VIOLENCE INTO THE POLITICS OF GUYANA
We have to understand that Indentureship was used as a tool to break the resistance of Africans who refused to work for the pittance being offered by the former slave master. In that context, the indentured population from their arrival saw Africans through the eyes of the slave master, and that perspective has not changed since.

According to Eusi Kwayana, the first victim of ethnic violence in Guyana was Michael Ross killed by PPP supporters in jubilation and triumphalism after Jagan won the elections in 1961. It was the PPP that introduced racial voting because, according to Jan Carew, Jagan boasted that the birth rate was on his side. The PPP introduced torture in the security forces when they had Emanuel Fairbain called Batson tortured. Tiger never changes its spots, nor do Heyenas change their predisposition.

We do not need to consider the idiocy of the little eichmans that the PPP send out wherever they discover black voices that do not accept the sour milk. Because they have been able to get some negros to wipe out their fellow Africans they have come to the conclusion that they can get away with anything in Guyana. Well the bell has begun to toll, and justice will come to all of them, including the house slaves that do their bidding for less than 30 pieces of silver. The slavery system imposed in Guyana since 1992 will not last for nearly as long as its predecessor of 176 plus years ago. Amanda!!!!

Jonestown massacre
LFS Burnham shame on you and the PNC party back then, how could you allowed some psycho like Jim Jones a manipulator and dictator to come in a commit such vicious crime on our land. You might not if know his intentions but for the lovce of money you've allowed this false preacher to come in a build a large compound and carry out his vicous act, there is no way that the then government was not paid off so that this murderer can come in,shame on you Burnham you have a lot to pay for ,hope you gets the deeper part of hell.Women and children perish as a reuslt of your greed,if the name Guyana is mentioned all people will remember is Jones town. What country or government allow 900 plus foreigners to come in and build a compound to start a church? a church?that s right a noneprofit organization that will not bring any thing to your country and knowing you Forbes a money hungry dictator ,who would of protected Guyana by any means necessary would just allowed a church to come build all the way in the Jungle but you knew what this murderer was up too and you give him the green light to go all the way there where you think no one would of ever found out but God is a good God people did live to tell the story,Shame on the PNC they should never ever be allowed to come any where near the offices of Guyana man these people are vicious and cruel i remember in the days when that Forbes uses to have his people stomp bread because flour was not allowed in Guyana .that man and his people are no good they are responsible for Guyana's down fall,he was a criminal and i dont know how the USA allowed that bomb to get away with such crime. He was a murderer he knew Jim Jomes they were a cut from the same cloth,he murdered so may other people in Guyana, Walter Rodney,Sir Daivid Rose and the list goes on that is why he died like a dog and no one will ever knows where is body is .Murderer ,murderer, murderer

Lest we forget
Son Chapman’ victims remembered at touching ceremony
July 7, 2010 | By KNews | Filed Under News

By Enid Joaquin

The cold overcast day, with a sprinkling of sporadic drizzle that threatened to become torrential showers any minute, was somehow reflective of the somber mood of the small group of people that journeyed to Horadia yesterday, to commemorate the death anniversary of forty-three Lindeners, who perished there over forty years ago, when an explosion blew the Son Chapman and most of those onboard to bits.
Horadia seemed lonesome, desolate, with just a few houses scattered here and there.
And as usual the murky Demerara River was placid, imperturbable - it was hard to imagine that something as horrendous as the Son Chapman explosion could have occurred atop this sea of silence, whose depths could never divulge the horrible secrets.
But it did, that terrible Monday, 6th July 1964, shattering the quiet of the afternoon, and plunging Linden, which was then known as Mackenzie into shock and mourning.
The incident was, and still is, dubbed the worst catastrophe, apart from Jonestown, that has rocked this country.
And so every year, for the last four years, Lindeners journey to the site at Horadia to pay homage to these martyrs.
For martyrs they are, according to guest speaker at this year’s memorial, Mayor of Georgetown, Hamilton Green.
He said that the short address given by owner of the ill-fated launch, Norman Chapman, was very relevant, and alluded to the importance of unity, and exhorted those present to set aside personal differences and ambitions declaring, “whatever may be your political or religious beliefs what is clear is this country faces a common enemy”. And quoting Cicero he further declared “Whatever may be our differences we have one common peril, and therefore one safety and that safety is us working together.”
Green suggested that next year at the Son Chapman memorial, which he emphasised is not an anti-Indian activity, but an activity that focuses on the plight of our people, the participants should not be talking about a monument or the Son Chapman Memorial service, but converting the event to talk about the “Son Chapman Martyrs”.
Regional Chairman Mortimer Mingo said that the sacrifice of those who lost their lives in the Son Chapman explosion must not go in vain, but that through determination and strong representation, it must be ensured that such an incident does not repeat itself. “As a resilient people we must struggle for every ounce of our rights to ensure that the patrimony of this country belongs to all of the people, and not to some of the people.” He pointed out that the racial divide is something that no country should embrace.
Some persons felt however that the Son Chapman Memorial is not given the recognition it deserves, and suggested that the event should be more centralized, within Linden itself so that more residents could participate. It was even suggested that the site at Horadia should be open throughout the year to visitors, including students who might want to go and have a firsthand look at the place.
Yesterday’s event was graced by quite a few youths from across Region 10, who reportedly were encouraged to attend by Member of Parliament Vanessa Kissoon, who was also instrumental in helping Carlisa Blair and Yonika Roland in putting together some historical facts of the unfortunate tragedy.
This was well received by the gathering.
A DAY THAT WOULD NEVER BE FORGOTTEN
July 6th 1964 for most Guyanese back then had begun like any other day. For Claude Pattoi, a resident of Ituni, and employee of Norman Chapman, an enterprising businessman, it was just a regular working day. Little did he know it would be one he would never forget!
Claude, along with two of his co-workers, had disembarked the vessel they had been loading at the “fish koker wharf” in Georgetown and headed to an eating place in La Penitence market to have breakfast.
Later on their way back to the launch the Son Chapman, the three men encountered a man named Brown, who told them, ’boy alyuh boat gon blow up!’
Pattoi said that they were not afraid, as they had been hearing of threats to “blow up” the boat, but nonetheless decided to call the police, who subsequently checked the boat, where they found nothing unusual.
The men continued with loading the launch and left Georgetown for Linden about 11am, that day with less than their full complement of passengers.
Soon the men would forget the man at the Koker that had warned them, as they ferried up the Demerara river.
“It was a beautiful day and the crew members and some of the passengers, were on deck just enjoying the trip - laughing and talking. We made a couple of stops along the way to put off persons - not actually stopping at a ‘landing’, but just stopping in the river briefly as the passengers got into smaller boats that came out to meet them.
Our only real stop was at Horadia, which was the only stop that had a “stelling” and two people got off there, one Winifred Douglas and her reputed husband Alex Campbell,” Claude Pattoi recollected.
Those two must have counted their lucky stars that day, as less than twenty minutes later, the serenity of the Demerara river was shattered as a terrible explosion rocked the Son Chapman
Douglas would later report how after disembarking the launch, she and her husband had walked just a short distance when they heard the explosion.
“One of the men on deck with us, who was known as ’Dodi’, had just gotten married, and was on his way down the steps to get some of his wedding cake to share with us. He never got to the cake!”
“When I heard the explosion, I thought it was the engine, but as I ran past the chimney was smoking, so the engine had to be running still.”
“Looking in the hull of the boat, I saw people there just sitting - like they were in shock, or maybe they were already dead!”
“Everything happened so fast, I think we were all in shock.” Pattoi recounted.
Forty-three persons lost their lives tragically that day.
The few persons that were saved included the entire boat crew, who were mostly on the boat’s deck and bow.
Fortunately for them, another launch which the Son Chapman had passed on the ill-fated trip, soon came along and took some of them to Linden.
Residents of Horadia, also came out in their paddle boats and rendered assistance.
But the hardest part was watching as bodies that were retrieved days later, being tied together like a makeshift raft to take to Linden.
A few of them that were in a terrible state of decomposition were buried right at Horadia, it was reported.
Owner of the vessel, Norman Chapman, said he was not surprised when he received the terrible news, as he had long been hearing of plans to ‘waste’ the Son Chapman. He had made reports to the police though and had taken certain precautionary security measures.
Both Chapman and his old engineer Pattoi reiterated that there were persons that were jealous of the launch’s popularity and were therefore determined to stop her at any cost.
“There was no other way they could have stopped the Son Chapman, we were the fastest and firmest boat plying the Demerara at the time. People loved our service, as we were the most reliable and courteous. The other boats that used to run, used to have to wait for us to full, before they could load,” Pattoi boasted.
That popularity may have led to the tragic snuffing out of forty-three innocent lives, whose only crime was to have loved one of the fastest launches to ply the Demerara River.

DON'T GIVE UP THE FIGHT
Guyana Bauxite and General Workers Union

July 2, 2010

Press Release

GB&GWU grieves with the victims of Manaka accident, demands root cause analysis of accident, and reiterates calls for Ministry of Labour to intervene NOW to stop injuries, loss of income and life at BCGI.

The GB&GWU is deeply grieved and disturbed over the accident involving bauxite workers on June 30 at Manaka, where two died, 15 critically injured and others traumatized. This fatal accident occurred in a company assigned vehicle, on a company road, when workers were being transported to work. This is an industrial accident resulting from negligence and gross occupational safety and health shortcomings which highlights the risk which bauxite workers face on a daily basis. We are reminded that accidents do not just happen but are themselves a result of failure to observe measures appropriate to their prevention.

In the case of the Manaka accident this is an accident that happened on the mines property (road) of which the Bauxite Company of Guyana Inc. (BCGI) is responsible for its maintenance. This road is built from bauxite waste which over the years requires constant maintenance due to its construction materials and the heavy industrial and other traffic that traverses it. Formerly a grader was assigned to maintain the road, making it safe for traffic. This is no longer being done and as such the road has deteriorated to the point where workers’ transportation has to leave much earlier to meet to work on time on a journey that would normally be much shorter. There are times when traversing the road becomes so bad that it takes more than 2 1/2 times what it would normally take from workplace to home and vice versa. The absence of safety signs to forewarn drivers of the dangerous bend in the road and its deteriorating conditions are also a factor of safety that is missing. The Union is reliably informed that the accident resulted from a collision of on-coming vehicles having to navigate an eroded road at a dangerous turn. Compounding the safety issue is the use of an unsuitable minibus for such conditions as opposed to a more rugged terrain vehicle. It is the responsibility of the employer to take into consideration the safety of every employee before and during the contract of service to transport them from one place to another. The magnitude of the injuries sustained by these employees would not have been so severed if in the first instance the appropriate vehicle was used in transporting the workers.

As the worst accident in the Kwakwani area, resulting in deaths, critical injuries and traumatized workers, it cannot be swept under the carpet as a simple road accident. While the Union is encouraged at the efforts made to save lives, it will not be satisfied to be told that this is as far as it goes. We need a root cause analysis to determine all factors contributing to this very sad loss of lives and injury and immediate short and long term measures to be implemented so that such situations of hazards are removed or minimized in the daily lives of bauxite workers.

Occupational Health and Safety breaches present a threat to labour's safety and is not a matter to be taken lightly nor can it be compromised. The safety of BCGI workers has been compromised for some time now and efforts made by the Union to have the Ministry of Labour address concerns have been ignored. In May 2009 workers were forced to protest unsafe working conditions when the company had them working with malfunctioning vehicles. Some workers fell ill and one is now permanently disabled. The Occupational Safety and Health Act, 98:10 (OSHA) Section 56 (1) (a) and (b) expressly state “A worker may refuse to work or do particular work where he has reasonable justification to believe that any equipment, machine, device, or article the worker is to use or operate presents an imminent and serious danger to the life or health of himself, or another worker; or the physical condition of the workplace or the part thereof within which he works or is to work presents an imminent and serious danger to his life or health.” When workers took action consistent with this law BCGI suspended some in clear violation of Section 58 (1) (b) that says “no employer or person acting on behalf of an employer shall discipline or suspend or threaten to discipline or suspend a worker.” The company has since taken legal actions against the Union leaders.

The Ministry of Labour's continued refusal to meet with the union and company to resolve these grave matters sends a signal to the union and bauxite workers that BCGI treatment of them has the support of the Government of Guyana, in as much as the Ministry knows that their rights are being transgressed and the OSHA laws violated; even as they know the serious risk to life and limb and consequential social effects on families and communities. As recent as May 2010 the Union again wrote Chief Labour Officer, Yoganand Persaud seeking his involvement to conciliate in the occupational safety and health dispute to undo the wrong done to workers in accordance with OSHA laws and bring about an improvement in working conditions at the workplace. To date there has not been an acknowledgment much less any move to set up a meeting. It is clear that bauxite workers are not in the eyes of this government deserving of justice, safe work conditions and protection of their rights. Even with continued injuries and the loss of life bauxite workers are being ignored.

Working conditions at BCGI is of critical concern and GB&GWU asks the Minister of Labour Mr. Manzoor Nadir and Chief Labour Officer Mr. Yoganand Persaud, as well as civic society how long can you continue to turn a blind eye or give tactic support to practices that violate workers’ rights, threaten their lives, limbs and livelihood. How long can you ignore the endangerment of bauxite workers? Like sugar workers and every worker of this country bauxite workers must be treated with respect. Workers are not inanimate resources; they are human and the most essential element in the line of production. The GB&GWU warns that unless strong action is taken NOW the situation will get worse and more lives will be loss and injuries sustained.

Meanwhile, the union sends its condolences to the families of the workers who died as a result and to the injured and those who remain traumatized know that we feel your pain and suffering. The union urges all workers of BCGI, all those who consider their lives and health important to stand up and speak out for without health and life you and your family's are doomed.

GB&GWU calls on the Ministry to do its job and conciliate the dispute with BCGI and to ensure that OSH standards are met immediately. We call for an urgent root cause analysis of the conditions creating the accident at Manaka and the subsequent injuries and loss of life.

This is guyana

Our people no longer seem to have a voice
July 1, 2010 | By KNews | Filed Under Letters

Dear Editor,
I just returned to New York after a brief visit to my native land. Except for the thieving customs official/s in Trinidad who seemed to like a few pieces of my gold jewellery and a few bottles of cologne more than me, my vacation was most enjoyable. I met old friends and made new ones; and despite the hard economic times there, the traditional Guyanese hospitality takes a back seat to no-one. I was grateful that I arrived during the mango season, and had my fill of Buxton Spice and all my favorite authentic Guyanese food.
During my stay, I travelled mainly throughout West Demerara and Georgetown, and had the opportunity to drive over the much talked about Berbice River Bridge on my way to the Corentyne River. Although there are some obvious improvements to the roads, it seems to me that the bare minimum was done by the government to show ‘development’; and the Berbice River Bridge is no exception. This bridge is bumpy, too narrow, and looks like an accident waiting to happen. Surely one can argue that the bridge is a vast improvement to the transportation system there, but anything that’s worth doing, is worth doing well; and sadly the Guyanese people seem to be contented with whatever little handout they receive from the government.
There are several areas of concern that I will be emphasizing on in letters to follow, but I will briefly mention a few that stand out:
Georgetown, the Garbage City:
Georgetown used to be known as the ‘Garden City of the Caribbean’, now throughout the city, one can see piles of garbage littering the streets, and blocking drains and trenches.
And I’m sure that government officials are aware of this because I took several photographs of huge piles of garbage in front of the Parliament Building and the Supreme Court, and in the canal in front of City Hall.
Maybe to some this is an acceptable practice, but to most Guyanese, and certainly those returning home and to visitors to the country, this is simply nastiness that will feed the rodent population and contribute to the spread of disease.
The invasion
of the vendors:
There is no doubt, the vendors have taken over Georgetown and absolutely no effort is being made to take control of this unsightliness. Pedestrians are forced to navigate their way through traffic on the streets, because the sidewalks are taken over by vendors. And at the end of the day, all the garbage is left behind.
Beggars:
A sure sign that the country’s economy is not as good as we’re led to believe, is when some of its citizens have been reduced to begging. Everywhere I went, I was solicited by an alarming amount of children and some adults for money.
After discussions with some of these kids (one girl was only 12 years old), I am convinced that they do so with the full knowledge of their parents.
A breakdown in our moral values:
While at a popular hotel in the city having a drink at the bar just before lunch, I was totally shocked when a young woman stepped out of the pool and approached the bar wearing a G-String in a public place.
From the back, she was completely naked, and did not leave much to the imagination from the front either. Instinctively, I looked to see if there were kids around, and was grateful that there were none.
This woman looked so comfortable walking around flaunting her body, that I feel sure she would not have covered herself up even if kids were there.
Is this what our values have been reduced to? I strongly urge the management of hotels in the country to enforce an acceptable dress code at their poolsides to protect our youth and to guard against a further decline in our moral values. In conclusion, the few new buildings I’ve seen cannot compensate for the many more condemned (or should be condemned) buildings that litter Georgetown, and one should not be confused in believing that this is a sign of progress. Unemployment is at an unacceptable high, our once beautiful city of Georgetown has deteriorated immensely, and our people no longer seem to have a voice; and if they do, is it that the PPP/C Administration feel that they’re too powerful to listen to the citizens that put them there?
In 2011, we will know the answer to that question.

Protest against killing of school boy Kelvin Fraser
Please forward to as many Guyanese as possible at home and in the diaspora.

Thankyou.

Organizers

Norman Browne

Dr Michelle Asantewa

DEAR ALL

JOIN A PEACEFUL PROTEST AGAINST THE HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS AND UNLAWFUL MURDERS IN GUYANA.

THE LATEST OF THESE HAS BEEN THE WILFUL MURDER OF INNOCENT AND UNARMED 16-YEAR OLD SCHOOLBOY KELVIN FRASER, BRUTALLY GUNNED DOWN BY A POLICEMAN FOR NOTHING.

AS EUSI KWAYANA SAYS: "It was not a secret shooting. It was not accidental. It was not unintended. He was not shot while the policeman was hunting. He was shot while the policeman was shooting him."

IN OTHER WORDS, THIS INNOCENT BOY WAS SHOT FOR THE SAKE OF SHOOTING HIM. THE POLICEMAN KNEW HE COULD DO SO WITHOUT ANY KIND OF PUNISHMENT IN THE NOW LAWLESS STATE THAT IS GUYANA. THIS IS AN ACT OF PURE EVIL.

THE BOY'S MOTHER SILENCED (AT LEAST AN INITIAL ATTEMPT WAS MADE) WITH A G$100,000 (about £500) BRIBE NOW FEARS HER OWN LIFE FOR SPEAKING OUT AGAINST THE KILLING OF HER SON BY THE LAW ENFORCERS WHO SHOULD HAVE PROTECTED HIM.

THE GUYANESE GOVERNMENT MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR SANCTIONING THESE ATROCITIES. NO ONE IS BROUGHT TO JUSTICE OVER THESE MINDLESS SLAUGHTERS BECAUSE THE CORRUPTION IN THE LEGAL SYSTEM IS SO IMPENETRABLE.

GUYANA IS THEREFORE NOW A POLICE STATE IN WHICH THE POLICE ARE EMPOWERED TO SHOOT INNOCENT PEOPLE, INCLUDING CHILDREN.

THIS MUST STOP NOW. GUYANA IS NOT APARTHEID SOUTH AFRICA DESPITE THE GOVERNMENT'S EVERY ACTION TO MAKE IT SEEM SO.

GUYANESE LIVE IN FEAR OF BEING SHOT OR OTHERWISE SILENCED FOR SPEAKING OUT AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT. HOW CAN THIS BE A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY? EVERY CITIZEN HAS A RIGHT TO CHALLENGE THE UNREASONABLE ACTIONS OF ITS GOVERNMENT WITHOUT FEAR OF BEING SHOT DEAD. THIS IS THE PRESENT SITUATION IN GUYANA.

LET'S PRESSURE THE GUYANESE GOVERNMENT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND STOP THE SLAUGHTER OF INNOCENT PEOPLE NOW.

ALL WE ASK IS ONE HOUR OF YOUR TIME:

3 - 4.00PM - THURSDAY 1ST JULY - OUTSIDE THE GUYANA HIGH COMMISSION, 3 PALACE COURT, LONDON, W2 4LP (MAP LINK - http://www.multimap.com/s/RrwQ5JQS)

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. IF WE DON'T ACT NOW, WHAT NEXT FOR GUYANA? OUR FREEDOM AND OUR RIGHTS ARE THE BASIC FACTS OF HUMAN EXISTENCE. LET'S BE SERIOUS ABOUT PRESERVING THEM.

PLEASE KINDLY FORWARD TO AS MANY AS YOU CAN. IF YOU MUST TAKE TIME OFF, THIS CAUSE IS MORE THAN WORTHY.

Peace & one love
Michelle Asantewa

Victoriaguy I beg you, stop wasting your keystrokes on EachOneReachOne. We concerned Guyanese both domestic and abroad will continue to support the Benschop Foundation because we know that whatever resources are put into that organization has been used and will continue to be used to improve the lives of the less fortunate in Guyana. It's EachOneReachOne prerogative to ask questions about the organization but based on his/her tone the foundation is better off without his/her support. EachOnePreachOne hope you find a reputable organization such as the Benschop Foundation where your altruism would be appreciated.

Yeah Right!
You can focus on what the hell you wish. I encounter people like you every day. Blowing your self out of proportion with a bunch pompous rhetoric. Like I said, if you are interested in corruption in Guyana focus your attention on the regime that thief clico money and bank it in Florida, raid the national coffers to buy houses and cars for their kids, and extract 16% tax from the poor so that they do not have to enforce the tax laws on their business friends.

Sashaying around blogs screaming that you want to check out one of the few people who really give a damn and manifests it in his works will only impress idiots. They will be impressed because that is what you all have in common.

WELL THEN...
Say that's what you are? Don't act like my questioning the financial background of this foundation is offensive to you based on the fact that you're this deeply sensitive philanthropist. Be real about what you are. I, just like anyone who donates to any none for profit, ESPECIALLY IN GUYANA, shiould question where the money goes and how it actually helps. So again, good luck with all that emotion around my questions. Me, I'll continue to focus on helping and making sure that I hold people to what they say they will do. Hero worship gets you nowhere.

Good Luck.

Hmmm indeed!
So what if I am more than just a supporter. You make that sound as if it is a bad thing, which corroborates my impressions about your motives. Your entire response to my comment that the Benschop foundation will be coming to Linden was rife with negative connotations, and this snide, "you sound like more than just a supporter" shows the petty and mischievous nature of your output.

You can think what you wish. Why not try making the PPP accountable. What the hell are you talking about making everyone accountable. Stop beating on your chest and preening like a peacock.

Like a said, a half a brain of contemplation would have deduced that the Benschop Foundation had to be straight, or the PPP would have used any deviation to shut him down. No, I don't believe you. I believe you are like all the other propgandist despatched to throw spokes in the wheels of any effort to help black people.

You should be ashamed of yourself
You should be ashamed of yourself. Having an affair with a married woman and blaming her for the breakup. Whether she is Guyanese or not what does it matter. She went back to her husband. Don't blame "Guyanese women" for this woman's indescretion. This topic is utterly disgusting and you should keep this kind of behaviour to yourself.

I met a beautiful lady named Sharon. She is Guyanese and currently living in Brooklyn NY. She told me her husband treated her bad and she was ready to leave him. We had an affair. I fell for her and she coldly left me and went back to her husband. I am American - is this normal Behavior for Guyanese women?

I'm starting to believe you're a little more involved in this organization than just as a supporter. Speaking as someone who also donates "heavily" to many organizations in Guyana and as someone who "heavily" investigates the finances of each of those organizations before and during the times of my support, I'll say this to you... good luck. This seems personal to you. For me, its about making sure people are held accountable for their promises and actions. And by that I mean.. EVERYONE.

Give me a Break with that crap!!!
Baloney. Show me records of the financial process of all those other charities in Guyana. There is no record of nthe financial process of the Givernment of Guyana for christ sake.

Your thrust is as transparent as your attempt tp sound officious. I have donate heavily to that foundation, and it its more transparent with its charitable work than any other such organization in Guyana. Commonsense would guide thinking to the obvious, that give the relationship between Benschop and The PPP regime if he as much as spent a dollar wrongly they would have him in jail in a jiffy.

You guys need to disabuse yourself from the illusion that you can fool anyone. If you are interested in corruption and the misappropriation of funds I suggest you direct your questions to the PPP regime. Why concern yourself with a mole of apprehended corruption when a mountain of it is before your very eyes.

wow..
As someone who spends a lot of money and time in Guyana, I'm fully aware of his foundation. There are many people doing many things in Guyana, some are using the money for what they claim and some are not. For whatever reason, there is much information on this foundation on the guyanaobserver website (where Mr. Banschop host a radio show) but little information about the foundation's financial process. I find it interesting that a couple of questions about that is attacked on this level. People who don't ask questions worry me.

Why are people so negative? Common sense should have directed you EachOneReachOne to research the Foundation before asking those questions. The viewers already know what direction you are heading, what have you contributed to the people in Linden? I suggest you attend classes at the foundation when it begins since reading is fundamental.

RE - Mark Benschop Foundation
You have not given a dime and you start of with these questions. Mark Benschop's foundation have been in existence in Guyana since he emerged from prison, and have received acclaim from local and diplomatic sources. It is not that asking for an accounting is not a viable precept. But the question, given the fact that the organization has been around for ages, appears quite facetious, more than a little preening, and suggest a personality that is full of it.

MARK COMING TO LINDEN
Mark Benschop is bringing his foundational outreach to Linden. I will donate a brand new Laptop computer towards the establishment of a center to train Linden Youth and adults in technology. This will be an opportunity for people to walk the walk and jettison the proclivity to talk the talk.

I am not a Lindener, but I am a paid up, conscious, unapologetic and unreconstucted African. So I gravitate to any arena where Africans encounter hardships through discrimination and marginalization. Since charity begins at home, and home is in Guyana, what happens in Linden is no less important than what happens in my fathers' birth place Victoria E.C.D. The blood and genes of the Africans who formed a cooperative after emancipation and purchased land to start that village runs heavily through every vein in by body.

CARNAL KNOWLEDGE OF A MINOR AMOUNTS TO STATUTORY RAPE
Carnal Knowledge of a minor is the wording of the charge when the victim is of a certain age. The circumstances involve enticing the act with a female of a certain age where consent is not a defense. It is essentually statutory rape, and carries a penality of 14 years, unless there were changes to the law.

Charging him under the section of the law that covers rape, when the circumstances if the crime substaniates a different offence and not rape as it is defined, can end up with him being free on a No Case Submission filing by his attorney.

Remember Rape is the Carnal Knowledge of a female by force, fear or fraud against her will. What CN is accused of is having sex with kids over an elogonated period. This is not a suggestion that what he is accused of is less vicious or dehumanizing than the act of forcible rape. It is just an effort to explain our lousy laws

Town Week Pageant Delegates
I am so proud of these girls for the effort they are making. There are so many negative comments under their photos. Remember they have very limited resources available to them. They are not professionally trained and may not even have a professional trainer. Despite all of this someone took the time to plan this event and to get the girls ready with what little is available. We don't need to degrade them with our comments. Do something positive for them. Encourage them. They are not our average US models with money and resources readily available to them, but they are trying. Yes there can be improvements to their poses, posture and even hair and makeup but we can give them constructive criticism, or better yet donate stuff to the event planner to help these girls look better. If we bad talk our own like this, how then can we expect to be respected? We are or were all Lindeners at some point. Be proud, stand tall and be respectful so that we can demand respect in return. Good luck ladies, put your all into what you are doing and be proud of who you are.

Time for bigger things Linden...
Congratulations on another apparently well planned Town Week.
Something keeps striking my thoughts recently - the only activities that project Linden positively to the virtual (cyber) world revolve around a big party, lime or fete.
Can't the people of Linden do anything else to benefit themselves and/or the town? How about self-help activities to bring about a cleaner town? A new collective educational drive triggered and ran by a coalation of educational institutions in the town and targetting the under- or low- achieving schoolage kids?
Just a couple but we can start with those while Lindeners think of the many opportunities available to them and worthy enough to attract the attention of willing funding from within and outside Linden and Guyana, maybe?.
Its not all about Partying. This is a new Townweek time. Tell me what apart from a "BADDER" Big and Bold pageant, is happening in Linden.
Please TELL ME..

How to keep a Black man down: By Willie Lynch...The Making of a slave

GENTLEMAN:

I greet you here on the bank of the James River in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and twelve. First I shall thank you, the Gentlemen of the Colony of Virginia, for bringing me here. I am here to help you solve some of your problems with slaves. Your invitation reached me on my modest plantation in the West Indies where I have experimented with some of the newest and still the oldest methods for control of slaves. Ancient Rome would envy us if my program is implemented. As our boat sailed south on the James River, named for our illustrious King James, whose bible we cherish, I saw enough to know that your program is not unique. While Rome used cords of wood as crosses for standing human bodies along the old highways in great numbers, you are here using the tree and the rope on occasion.

I caught the whiff of a dead slave hanging from a tree a couple of miles back. You are not only losing valuable stock by hangings, you are having uprisings, slaves are running away, your crops are sometimes left in the fields too long for maximum profit, you suffer occasional fires, your animals are killed, gentlemen...you know what your problems are; I do not need to elaborate. I am not here to enumerate your problems, I am here to introduce you to a method of solving them.

In my bag here, I have a fool-proof method for controlling your black slaves. I guarantee everyone of you that if installed correctly it will control the slaves for at least 300 years. My method is simple, any member of your family or any overseer can use it.

I have outlined a number of differences among the slaves, and I take these differences and make them bigger. I use fear, distrust, and envy for control purposes. These methods have worked on my modest plantation in the West Indies, and it will work throughout the South. Take this simple little test of differences and think about them. On the top of my list is "Age", but it is there because it only starts with an "A"; the second is "Color" or shade; there is intelligence, size, sex, size of plantations, attitude of owners, whether the slaves live in the valley, on a hill, East, West, North, South, have fine or coarse hair, or is tall or short. Now that you have a list of differences, I shall give you an outline of action--but before that, I shall assure you that distrust is stronger than trust, and envy is stronger than adulation, respect, or admiration.

The Black Slave, after receiving this indoctrination, shall carry on and will become self refueling and self generating for hundreds of years, maybe thousands.

Don't forget, you must pitch the old Black vs. the young Black male, and the young Black male against the old Black male. You must use the dark skinned slaves vs the light skinned slaves, and the light skinned slaves vs. the dark skinned slaves. You must use the female vs. the male, and the male vs. the female. You must also have your servants and overseers distrust all Blacks, but it is necessary that your slaves trust and depend on us. They must love, respect, and trust only us.

Gentlemen, these kits are your keys to control, use them. Have your wives and children use them. Never miss opportunity. My plan is guaranteed, and the good thing about this plan is that if used intensely for one year, the slaves themselves will remain perpetually distrustful.

I UNAPOLOGETICALLY ENDORSE JULIET HOLDER ALLEN FOR PRESIDENT OF GUYANA
I am absolutely in the Juliet Allen Holder Camp. It has nothing to do with her winning, because the reality is that the ethnic majority will never vote for an African. Walter Rodney gave his life for the PPP to come into power, and they have never shown an iota of gratitude.

I support Juliet Allen Holder because I believe that if she gets into parliament she will not shuffle along obsequiously like Corbin and his coterie of disciples.

GAME CHANGE?
I always believed that any CHANGE in the direction Guyana is headed will originate in Linden (the town that is named after Forbes Burnham); it is only fitting that it be so written and so done.

Recently the leader of the main opposition Robert Corbin (a Lindener) declared his non candidacy for the Presidency of Guyana. Then another Lindener Juliet Holder-Allen announced the formation of a new political party which is the subject of the political bloggers and pundits on the web right now.

It is my humble opinion that Juliet Holder-Allen should be the opposition’s Presidential candidate to replace Corbin at the 2011 polls. She has stood up to Jagdeo and the PPP. She took the blows and is willing to go the extra mile to defend her fellow citizens. I strongly believe this Lindener is the real deal and would create the GAME CHANGE we so badly need in Guyana. She has all the requisite qualifications necessary to be our leader and make all Guyana proud again.

It is time to take back our country and if my memory is correct, Burnham had christened LINDEN the cradle of the revolution.

The opposition parties should sit with her and work some kind of agreement out and as she said when the PNC is ready to stand against Jagdeo and the PPP, she will be there! LET US STAND BEHIND JULIET; IT IS TIME FOR A GAME CHANGE IN GUYANA!

Child dies after frenzied attempt to ‘beat out spirits’
March 31, 2010 | By KNews | Filed Under News

“Me live forty years and me nah know bout jumbie; me mek four pickney, me nah know bout jumbie; me husband dead and he nah come fuh visit me,” - Grandmother
The mysterious death of a 13-year-old girl has created huge division between the residents of Canal Number Two Polder on the West Bank of Demerara.
Sangeeta Persaud called Sheena succumbed at the West Demerara Regional Hospital on Sunday night after efforts by members of her church to ‘free her from spirits’ failed.
Allegations are flying left, right and centre, that the teenager might have been affected after eating a meal from a religious function that was held by a resident of the area. But according to the neighbours, the child was not even at thee function.
Dead: Sangeeta Persaud called Sheena

Dead: Sangeeta Persaud called Sheena

Residents are convinced that had the child been taken to the hospital immediately after falling ill, instead of wasting hours trying to rid her of spirits, she might have had a chance of survival.
They are anxiously awaiting the results of a post mortem examination to dispel their fears.
Chitranie Chaitu, the dead girl’s grandmother, who has been caring for her since she was nine years old, told this newspaper that the Kawall Primary School student was alive and well up to about 08:00 hours on Sunday. It was only after she drank a cup of tea that signs that something terrible was about to happen.
“Me sit down pon de bed and de gal come and grab me. Me thought was joke she ah mek. But me see she eye ah roll up and she ah juck up in de whole house,” Chaitu recalled.
She began rubbing the child with Limacol, hoping to revive her, but the effort failed.
Chaitu then questioned the child but the answers she received were inconclusive.
“Me ask she if she belly ah hurt, she say no, you back ah hurt, she say no. Me ask she wha wrang with you Sheena? She drink lil more of the tea and she start again. She had ah twist up and she ah holler like if something ah frighten you. She face start get dark and she turn up she eye,” Chaitu told Kaieteur News.
She said that she eventually contacted the child’s mother, suggesting that the teenager might have contracted a ‘spirit’.
A few minutes later the teenager’s mother arrived, followed shortly after by a senior member of a Church in the area.
“As soon as he come, he start fuh holler, ‘Get out! Get out!’ But Sheena de done helpless already. Dem ah squeeze she and so like dem ah tek out jumbie from she. ‘Get out! Who send you?’ But de pickney can’t talk’,” Chaitu explained.
All this ended at about 11:00 hours.
Instead of taking the child to the hospital, they then lifted her into a car and took her to a church nearby.
According to her grandmother the child was kept there until 17:00 hours while brothers and sisters from the church with the blessings of the teenager’s mother continued their ‘exorcism’.
But try as they might, Persaud never regained consciousness.
“Dem ah squeeze dis child belly, all ah she privates. De momma dem ah sing and ah clap,” Chaitu said.
Kaieteur News was told that other villagers who had gathered at the church were prevented from entering while the ‘exorcism’ was being performed. This was after they demanded that the child be taken to the hospital.
“Me tell de mother when she recover me nah want am back because jumbie hold am ah me place. So dem throw anointed oil ah she mouth then dem tek lime and salt,” said Chaitu.
She said that one of the church members even claimed that he was feeling when the jumbie was coming out from the child’s nose.
By this time the child’s mother became worried and realizing that Chaitu was not too much in favour of the activity, she tried to coerce her to go home.
“Me live forty years and me nah know bout jumbie, me mek four pickney me nah know bout jumbie, me husband dead and he nah come fuh visit me,” Chaitu stated.
After all the efforts failed, the child was eventually taken to the hospital where she was immediately admitted.
But despite the desperate efforts of doctors there, not surprisingly to her grandmother, Sangeeta Persaud succumbed at around 22:00 hours on Sunday.
Chaitu denied that the child was beaten during the botched exorcism.
But Jacqueline James, who lives opposite the church, told this newspaper a different story.
“They close up the church and we hear the child screaming but we can’t go into the church because they lock it. They should have taken the child to the hospital,” James said.
She claimed that the church members had alleged that ‘Nowraatri jumbie’ had possessed the child.
This she said stemmed from a recent Hindu function that was held at the home of a villager which was attended by the child’s grandmother.
But the child’s grandmother dismissed this, claiming that the child was not even around nor did she eat any of the food from the function.
The residents claimed that every Sunday they would hear church members ‘beating demons out of persons’, including babies.
They claimed that they have involved the police in the matter and they are anxiously awaiting the results of the post mortem examination on the child’s body, which is expected to be performed today.
Sangeeta Persaud would have celebrated her 14th birthday next month.
