Re: food for thought
If we as a nation (Guyana) is preaching DEMOCRACY, then we must practice it! If we don't vote on ISSUES, and continue to vote RACE; we are wasting time. I take it that we agree today it is more political than social! If my memory serves me correctly, the collapse of Linden (as I knew it) happened way before the PPP took office. We had a CHANCE to be master of our own DESTINY and we failed MISERABLY! Example! Solid contributions came from Norman, Horace, Roses, Silvertownman and Papi to name a few; suddenly, we started playing Devil's Advocate on this very website. Look! As someone wrote, let us leave the past alone or we will be going around in circles. Let us get rid of the square pegs and make Linden an example for all Guyana to follow.

One thing I learnt, and it is true. In American Politics and even the Criminal Justice System to a lesser extent; there are no permanent enemies! Some say Burnham was a racist, was it true? Maybe! What I do know is that he and Cheddi were never permanent enemies. They were friends! If anyone of you don't believe me, ask Janet!

the conflict between the races was always a major social issue. but when cheddi jagan declaired "apanjhat" the conflict became political. the term "apanjhat" is supposed to mean support your race. so the outcome is that the successful party would only help the respected race. that brought the collapse of linden when the PPP took parliament.
in the end the solution will have to come from the people when they refuse to support any party that has racist ideaology. in the end, the only solution is among the people.. in order to get support, the government will eventually adjust. we must lead our leaders by example. AN EXANPLE OF LOVE.

food for thought
Philosophy is directly related to prophecy. Many people have the idea that prophecy is only religious. The fact of the matter is that only 50% of all prophecy is religious. Take Marcus Garvey for example. He concluded that society in itself was not structured to help the poor. He further added that the structure of society placed blacks at the fronts of the economic carts since they were an inexhaustible workforce that meshed perfectly with the insatiable greed of the white man. Such an analysis is truly prophetic even though it has no religious meaning. Why? Well listen! There are two types of prophecy. Fore-told and forth-told prophecy. Fore-told prophesy involves talking about things that didnt happen yet. Like being a psychic. One perfect example of this type of prophecy is the book of Revelations. The writer of this book attributes the work to supernatural preminision. Since it is directly related to religion then it was fore told. On the other hand forth-told prophecy involves the analysis of a situation. In other words common sense is the source of his conclusion. Since Marcus Garveys philosophy was based on a current situation it is then forth-told prophecy. What does this mean? Well it means that we can all be philosophers or prophets if we are intelligent enough to look at society and make valid conclusions. Like black people and coolie people cant get along because mentally we are crabs in the barrel of poverty and stupidity. We can only change if the barrel is toppled over. And how can we topple stupidity if our educational institutions have no STEPS lol.Now seriously, was that hard?

Welcome Back!
And thanks for all the love (Papi you crazy). I think Silvertownman is right. It is time to organize. I'm going home shortly and people, my trip is about getting away, getting home and feeling the love of my country and figuring out how to make a real, measured difference. I'm going to be looking for opportunities for us to make a change and make our lives and good fortune count. My main focus will be the kids. The school situation in Guyana is a damn mess and if we don't fix it we will literally loose our future.

FOR chbiggs
A few of us are trying to build new desks and chairs for the students in Linden (beginning with MHS). How about you send me an estimate for how much it will cost to build 20 desks and chairs for each class room at Lichas. How about that challenge. Send the estimate to mhsrepairfund@gmail.com.

Peace

PS. Can someone check on Norman. Im getting worried. (LOL)

Yeah, thats right. the king is back and ready for war. while i was away some of you decided to get raw and bang some heads. but i wont have it. on this site, we admire those who are capable of participating in intellegent, civillized literary conflict. thats why rose and norman brown have always been respected. if you 'other guys' want to argue, you have a choice. u can read a book or two before writing, orrrrr, you can make your own website called "cuss when you vex" those who do not adhere to this warning will have to answer to me or my girl ROSES (i know you got my back) come on, for the first time we have something that is worth our free time. PLEASE DONT RUIN IT.

I'm back...
I'm surprised at the apparent decrease in traffic on the site. I was off because I was on business travel and unfortunately stayed at a hotel that does not facilitate wireless internet access. I'm back and enjoyed the comment Roses1 made re: You know who.
This lull in activities on the site, clearly indicates exactly what we do not want if we are able to organize towards really lending assistance in the revitalization of Linden. We must stick to our task. We are in the "getting to know you" phase and given the recent spate of apologies and re-assurances, ready to move to the next level. I have a suggestion.
Why don't we organize formally. Yes. Form what I call a Community of Practice drawn from the contributors to this site - a virtual committee - charged primarily with addressing the needs of the Linden Community. We will have to elect officers and draw up a charter, etc.
What do you all think? Just look at the way some of the Presidential Candidates have used and will be using the Internet to not only generate funds, but get things done. We can emulate that.
Your thoughts....

After recieving a copy of the new constitution we recognised that the constitution in need of corrections, & we recomend that the L.C.C.D work closely with the C.C.D.O for advice on this matter swiftly before thinking of holding any election under the new constitution.

MADNESS
The theory of 'LABEL' have always been a destructive element in our society. What unscrupulous attitude? I have always believed that 'Knowledge is Power'. Having said that, may I remind you guys the moment you start to "play with the puppies" what comes next! I would suggest that whenever these childish hypocrisies arise, give them the silent treatment. I recently objected when someone called on the webmaster to intervene, but it seems I have to give my thoughts a second opinion! I would urge you all that contribute 'Meaningful' to "STAY THE COURSE".

We are all human beings and that was meant to hurt that individual badly, but U know what we are bigger than those loud remarks you made about a daughter of the soil. You are one bitter person, who need love, but U need to look for it the right way.
I will igore those things U say and I hope the brothers and sisters will too.

Moderator, can't you just delete those lawless comments especially about others? Obviously that person is a sore loseer, uneducated and of low morals herself. You are a real bitter and nasty person. Get yourself educated and if you were not a low life yourself you would of been brave enough to put your REAL name and address so that everyone can recognise you. You are A DD. And I don'y know who you are Tunisha but obviously you have got something to make someone else jealousof you so much so that they are consumed with your life. I want to read about my country from overseas to keep abreast with upbuilding things. You need to be exiled. People like you make me wish Burnham was still in power to teach people like you a real life lesson.

WHAT U R Saying makes a lot of sense, but let me update you on what what happening here in the past. Horace_C is now getting some of his own medicine. He and Silvertown_man were the main culprits in dissing peope on this site. It is a good thing that they have finally awaken and try to buy back some love from the people. No one is disputing the fact that everyone wwho comes on this site have something enlightening to say. Whether we agree or not, that is everyone's perogative. At one time I became scared to say anything on this site, because you are told some nasty things and eve though in many cases, the individuals may not know the person personally, it hurts.

We are supposed to STOP attacking people on this site and try to be civil to each other, if it is difficult to Love each other.

I want to say SORRY to everyone on this site whom I have offended in one way or another and I will forget from here on the past.
I will prove to U that I a a sophisticated individual and a lot of the bantering that was taking place, was to show how people can become agitated for some very simple things.

I will be a part of the Health discussions on this site and I do not need a response from anyone. I am very sorry Horace_C, Silvertown_man and all who felt offended in anyway with some of my responses and remarks made on this site.
Love all, BYE

Please lets get to talking about real issues and stop this character assination.
Te World Cup is going to Guyana. Based on the performance of the WI tean in the warm ups especialy the Indis match, do you think they will be around for the Guyana leg of the tournament? Do you know of any organization/person from Linden who will benefit from the tournament being held in Guyana?

Horace_C: I am terribly sorry!!
Please accept my apologies, if my reference to you as a 'brother and friend' may have caused you some unpopularity. Many who knew the truth about who I really am, never came to my defence, when the tirade of unjustified and unfair character assasination was meted out to me. A mistake I will never make in time of trouble of my fellow brothers and friends. If I am an atagonistic and positively argumentative person who will court controversy, I will expect that the critics will be harsh. However, Horace C, on the other hand has been one of the most humble young men I came into contact with. I remember the days he was at LTV, the professional way he conducted himself and was always helpful with a good word of advice. It was no surprise, since his upbringing was a decent one. He came from a line of Lindeners who have excelled in various academic areas and who have contributed tremendously to Linden in the areas of education and health, etc. The Carryl's are renowned for positive contributions to the development of Linden. They have also excelled and made us proud on the international scene. Horace, taking the time from your duties in the US army, and contributing to this humble site of ours (Lindeners) speaks volumes of your humility. Do not be moved by negativity. Do not come down to the banal level of those who have lost their way. Let them continue to see me as the pariah and continue to live that lie. I am truly sorry that I mentioned you as a friend. I now realise why my childhood friend and webmaster and another small few do not wish to communicate nor associate with me like before. I didnt know that my image was that bad! Rabbi Washington once said 'If I had done for God what I did for Burnham...' I say 'If I had done for myself what I did for this site...' (Laugh). Anyway, tell them Banker is my friend, we are of the same ilk, tough and forever cool. That just might cut you some slack. Peace humble one....

Missy1 Slander
It's unfortunate that the users this forum have to resort to slander in order to bring some attention to themselves or contraversy in an effort to keep this site interesting.
To set the record straight, I will not engage in disclosing my past or present endevours in order to vindicate myself, if that is what you seek. Based on your statements and whatever your intentions are, i'm sure you don't know me however,
you could have asked, "who am I and what am I doing at present?"

Those of you that know me can attest to the fact that I have always been gainfully occupied and have to contributed to Linden positively .

It is amusing that whenever Lindeners/ Guyanese presents some intelligence, independent thinking and appears
to care about the week and corrupt society we are forced to live in, some would view that as a threat and find
it neccessary to assault the chracter of the outspoken. it's a shame that this is the only way we can communicate.

let it be known, no amount of chracter assassination can cause me to hold my views whenever the situation warrants it.
For those of you that can only contribute to this forum by trying to dishonor others, I say to you " go get a life you aint got .... on me!"

I'm still here. I was a little busy the past couple of days. I have to tell you, when you put positive energy out there it really does expand (a la "The Secret"). Actually whatever you put out there expands, positive or negative. Both my husband and I began to tell people, anyone, about our plans to be a part of changing things in Guyana, do you know how many people have offered to help. I have people from my job offering computers, books whatever. Right now we have so many books that my husband has gotten from his job in our home that we are going to have to send a barrel soon. I saw how bad the furniture in MHS looks from some pics that I saw and decided that I would find out how much it would cost to contract a carpenter to outfit the entire Lichas with new desks and chairs (of course its taking forever for me get an answer from someone down there) but I have people here offering to put money towards that. It's really incredible. Horace, with regards to your question, I know why I left. It was for change. I also know why I'm going to go back. It for change.

Peace.

PS. I'm going to get a website going very soon and form an official non-profit organization to generate income so that the things that aren't being done down there will get done. Unfortunately as much as intention can change things, money does so faster.

Horace_C Questions
My parents left Linden in the 70's. My siblings left in the early 80's. I wanted to stay in Guyana, but my mother sent a message that if I didn't leave on the next plane, she was coming to get me, I left the next day. I really didn't want her to do that. I love Guyana, I was born and bred in Linden, my roots are there, after several years I visited Guyana for the first time in 2003, but did not get an opportunity to go to Linden. But visited Linden last year and I could not believe it was my hometown. Like Horace_C, I would have to see some positive developments.

Webmaster, can we have some more information on all of the players in the Linden Town Week 2007?
I notice several groups and organisations involved, that would be responsible for the various activities. That was be a positive move on the part of the M&TC. It definitely allows the cake to be shared more evenly and creates the oppertunity for others to bring their Ideas forward. variety can be a good thing.
Best of luck to all involved.

For me, it was the lack of scope for me to achieve the things I wanted for my family, not that I haven't tried.
I would return if there is a cultural revolution, a clear and decisive vision for development that is actually moving forward or if I can be guaranteed the same quality of life I enjoy at present.

Good SPIN Horace_C!!!
This could catalyze a lot more fruitful submissions. I enjoyed Linden during the sweet days and actually gained my higher education as a result of my contribution to Demba/Guybau/Guymine. While fulfilling my contractual obligation it became pelucidly clear that the infrastructure which was ignored for many years was crumbling, markets were tightening and hope was following suit. Any ambitious person with so much to offer with no opportunity to practice his craft, had to look for the opportunity to do so. USA presented that and here I am.
I am ready and willing to return to Guyana (Linden in particular) permanently. The opportunity to earn a decent livelihood while teaching our kids in a secured environment are pre-requisites.
I post as often as I do on this site because I know the people of Linden would say the same things we are saying but most of them do not have the where-with-all to do so. In this day of technology, why is that so? Given the potential rebirth of the Bauxite Industry and exploration of our oil reserves, the South American Kuwait will surface. I'd like to be in that development thrust.

tom ture / Horace's questions
Slow your roll. I'm not trying to have anyone follow me. I voice my opinion here period.

Horace! I love you man. This is the kind of discussion that will definitely bring some clarity and hopefully change.

Answers: Ma muda mek me leave. (LOL.. Kidding)

Well that and the fact that clearly there weren't any real opportunities for young people in Guyana. I will return shortly. My lifes goal is to an instrument of change and enhancement for my country.

Why I left. (Open Answers)
I left Guyana to provide a better life for myself and family (Education, Standard of living, and Income).

I plan to return to Guyana and contribute both technically and financially to projects that would enhance the lives of the children and improve the standard of living in our communities. I have already started to put the infrastructure in place to facilitate this.

Why "we" are contradicting ourselves and not "you" are. You are always looking for people to follow you. Velav people do not pretend to be wise. If they come accross that way then maybe they are. peace.

open questions
It was never my intention to try to dominate this forum however, whenever a topic comes up that is dear to me I feel compelled to make an input because that opportunity was never given to me before or should I say I was too busy struggling to make a living in Guyana.

Having said that, Im of the opinion that these discussions are necessary in order for us to raise the level of consciousness among ourselves and hopefully arrive at a mutual understanding of where we would like to be as a people.

In order to reinforce why these discussions are necessary, I would like to put 2 general questions out there for as many people as possible to respond to. The various responses will answer these questions.

QUESTIONS; (1) why did many of us leave Guyana to live in an already developed country?
(2) What would it take for you to return to the place we claim to love, to live?

Atonement
Folks:
These discussions have been very edifying to me. I wish those who are requesting that they stop, join the discussions with some input. Silvertownman, Roses1, Horace_C and Norman are the kind of people who we should look up to when it comes to walking the talk. Or should we? Norman is right in asking for atonement. He seems to be staying in the destructivre mode by rebuking Roses1 in the same article in which he asks for atonement. I like the position Silvertownman and Hoarce_C take on all the discussions. They seem to be intelligent guys who do not give the impression that they are wise like Norman does. Roses1 is a down to earth person and she seems full of action. Exactly what Linden wants. You all continue talking. A lot of my friends wait all day looking for contributions on all topics from you all. you all are making a difference and soon the right people will take your advice.
Good job. Don't bother with Edna. She want party.

Atone for our wrongs. Reconcile our differences and move on.
The caption is very clear and may be the cure for true change in our community. The spirit of atonement and reconciliation is yet to be tried, everything else, I presume failed. We must begin to accept that alot of wrongs were done; alot of differences made and damages inflicted that seem beyond repair. There is no confrontational new start, no removing of those office bearers that will not create a new war of factional differences. It is expressed right here on this site. Some cannot fathom that with all the attacks on me that there might be a few people who would stand in my corner. We cannot expect to be leaders and be double standard with communist traits. "From today onwards everyone please ignore Norman." Then in the same breath choose to continue to respond to my writings. You cannot expect everyone to support you then get upset when a few do not agree with the things posited by you. Iron Butterfly or not one must be consistent and at the same time unbias. Read with honesty. I still find you admirable and honestly believe that you are passionate about change. I am man enough to say that after all you said about me.

Why the call for atonement and reconciliation among the leaders and the people? Can we give five reasons why this would be the best option and five reasons why it may not be. Let us begin to admit that there is wrong on both sides. Let us take some of the blame as the people too. There shouldnt be your way and my way; there has to be one way and it has to be shared by all parties involved! You see stringent corrective measures can cause distasteful reactions. Leaders like to be given scope and feel the sense of being trusted. All I am saying is start by rebuilding the trust, confidence and respect for them. It is sadly lacking. I see a big rally at Linden with all the leaders and people together and a banner that reads "Moving forward together for a progressive Linden". You will be surprised to see you joining hands with those same leaders as we march to Georgetown to the real houses of confusion and corruption.

This must be the first message board you've ever been on. Do you understand what they do in a Forum? Do you realize there's a page called EVENTS? Maybe you should visit that page. It's also on this site. Check it out.

To the others: I enjoy the debate, I look forward to everyone's insight on how to Linden back to where it should be, it's a pity we're not all there. I'm sure there would have been changes already.

I have been visiting this site for a while now, and read a lot of bull! Now, when you guys are having positive discussions (despite the name calling); someone wants the webmaster to intervene. I often wondered why so many of us (Guyanese) continue to live in a box! It is clear that Edna is concerned about what is coming out of these discussions! Particularly, the powers that be in Linden. Someone realizeed that this whole episode was created by you guys, and wants it to stop. Could you imagine, a broken down school, gangs in school, and all Edna cares about is going to town week and having a good time! Horace_c, as far as I remembered anyone could have expressed themselves freely! Remember "It is not what you say, but how it is said" Even in these United States where "Freedom of Expression" is a first amendment right. You still have to watch your mouth.
