| COMPARE BREADS |
 |
|
 |
Crescent foods is a household name for groceries in Linden and has always been admired for their low prices and customers service. Mr Sancho who is the owner of Crescent Foods has always had the community at heart and as such always thrived to deliver the best quality products at the cheapest prices.
However, while Crescent Foods would have been enjoying the sweet smell of success in the grocery business, a
another revolutionary idea would have been brewing COMPARE BREADS.
This idea was the brain child of Mr Larry Henry who is a overseas based business partner of Mr Sancho and originally a Berbician (New Amsterdam) who has been visiting Guyana from time to time with his wife, who suggested to him that a good business venture would be to open a bakery in Linden since most of the wheat products in this area came from out of the district. In addition, The idea was to lead in the drive to create jobs for young people. He then shared the idea with Mr Paul Chan and Mr Sancho. Even though it took four years before it came into reality, it has kicked off and is an instant hit!
COMPARE BREADS has been in existence for only a short time and the proprietors are overwhelmed at the response that they are getting from the community. In an interview with the executives of the company they revealed that they are not driven by profits but instead by customer service and the development of the community. They also said that their products stand out from the competition because they use a better quality raw material than the other companies which allow their breads to have a shelf life of 8-11 days instead of the regular 2-3 days. At the moment the bakery is capable of producing 1000 breads per hour, although currently they are only producing about quarter that amount. They also employ about 40 persons but hope to have above a total of They produce white and whole wheat breads, tennis rolls, raisin bread, butter flaps along with some new introductions to the Guyana market Jam flaps, cheese flaps, and toast bread. In the near future Compare Breads plan to introduce many other lines of products and invest in a few more business venture in the community.
At the launching of their products on Saturday 19th January, 2008, hundreds of Lindeners got a chance to sample
products and were enthused by the taste and quality. The employees were satisfied not only by with the products, but also by the way they were treated by their employers. One staff member boldly said I am very comfortable here and I feel as if we are a family, besides I cant even say that I have bosses. Its that nice here.

Hello Larry: I am visiting Ingrid Walters in New York and she told me that she built the Stacey Walters Library in Wisroc, Wismar. And when she was there she visited you and you and your partners built and opened the Compare Bread Company in Linden. I am very proud of you all. I told Ingrid that I will be sending some books to the Stacey Walters Library and I will visit the Library and your bakery when I go to Guyana for Town Week. This is good news. I am happy that you folks are giving back to Guyana. I will see you when I get there. Much success. God bless you all, the library and the Bread company. AND GOD BLESS GUYANA. |

Larry my friend, you have again ventured in the unchartered waters as you did in the 70's in Brooklyn.
You set a standard then which no other Guyanese has equalled or surpassed as of now. I send you my sincere best wishes and prayers that success will always follow you. May God continue to guide your path and protect you and your staff. Linden has certainly found a champion of the people in you. |

Fact that Larry Herny is involved in business venture with a positive community impact is not a surprise. Based on our interaction with him in Brooklyn since the early 80's, he is part of a dimishing breed of businessman that believe you have to benefit the community from which you profit. Attaboy |

The Wismar, Christianburg and McKenzie area had the best in Food Products some years ago.
Larry and his partners are putting Linden back on the map with this venture. With their enthusiasm and dogged persistence, I am confident, that they will get the support from all Linden, in fact all Guyana for future success. Their venture will lead on to bigger things.
My Prayers and and very good wishes are for continuous blessings |
